Biopsy Wound Care Instrucions                     Back to prior page

To clean the site, follow the following instructions:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water

  • Cleanse the area gently with a mild soap or cleanser at least once daily

  • Dry the area thoroughly by gently blotting area with a clean, dry towel or gauze pad

  • Apply a small amount of Vaseline, this will prevent a crust or scab which can slow the healing process and worsen scarring

  • No band-aid is necessary after the first 12 hours

  • Biopsy results are usually received by our office within 7 days. NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS. You will receive a call only if you have a result that either needs to be further discussed with the doctor or requires further treatment. If you do not hear from our office that means that your biopsy returned benign requiring no further treament.  If you do not receive a call within 2 weeks, but would like to know the results or diagnosis, please contact our office at 808-242-6460.

NOTE: Maui Medical Group does not have a pathology lab or pathologist. Therefore, the biopsy specimen is sent to an outside laboratory.  You will receive a separate bill from the laboratory for the processing of the specimen and for the reading of the specimen. Appropriate insurance information will be forwarded to the laboratory, however, ultimate responsiblility for this bill is that of the patient. The lab Dr. Cook has currently chosen is Miraca Life Sciences. If you have questions regarding your bill please call Miraca directly at:

Miraca Life Sciences Billing 888-344-1160

Unfortunately Maui Medical Group and/or Maui Medical Group Dermatology Department is unable to assist with the billing concerns from Miraca.  Thank you for your understanding.
