There is a remarkable new hyaluronic acid filler from Allergan, the same company that makes Juvederm XC Ultra, Juvederm XC Ultra Plus, and Botox. Dr. Cook has been thrilled with the results she is seeing with our local Maui patients.

Since it received clearance by the FDA in 2013, it has become one of Dr. Cook's favorites.  She is not the only one singing Voluma’s praises. New Beauty picked Voluma as the “Best Anti-Aging Treatment” and Allure gave it the 2014 “Beauty Breakthrough Award”.

So why all the excitement about another hyaluronic filler (HA) and what makes Juvederm Voluma XC so different from other fillers: Voluma Lifts and Lasts

Juvederm Voluma XC is the first HA filler cleared by the FDA to restore volume loss in the cheeks and lasts for

2 years.  This new thicker cross-linked formula adds volume, restoring a more youthful contour to the central face. Therefore, Juvederm Voluma XC lifts while Juvederm XC Ultra and Ultra Plus fills.

So if you are not quite ready for a facelift but have started noticing some changes including volume loss and "sagginess", Juvederm Voluma XC may be the right option for you.

The subtle lift achieved with Juvederm Voluma XC can make a dramatic difference. Patients surveyed in the clinical trials said they look up to 5 years younger.

Dr. Cook and her patient's have been delighted with the results of Juvederm Voluma XC.  Below are a few Before and After Pictures of Dr. Cook's patients. Pictures are of Dr. Cook's real patients and have not been retouched.

Frequently asked Questions:

What are the risks of Juvederm Voluma XC?

The most common side effects of Juvederm Voluma XC are injection site reactions and bruising.

Who performs the injections?

At Maui Medical Group, Dr. Cook, Board Certified Dermatologist, performs all injections. Although other

types of medical providers can provide this service, it is imperative to choose an injector who has been specifically

trained in the art of aesthetics and is comfortable with the structural anatomy of the face. This is not only for the

patient's safety but to ensure the best results.

What can I expect during the treatment:

Dr. Cook will assess your facial anatomy, volume loss, and any asymmetries and discuss the areas that would be

best treated with the Juvederm Voluma XC. The areas to be treated will then be cleansed with a surgical scrub.

Dr. Cook will then proceed with the injections.  Following the injections patients are provided with an ice pack to

    prevent swelling and bruising.

Does the treatment hurt?

Mild discomfort is felt during the procedure. On average patients state on a scale of 0-10 with 0 being no pain and

10 being extreme pain, a discomfort level of 2 with Juvederm Voluma XC. The product contains lidocaine which

allows the areas being treated to be anesthetized. Dr. Cook also has other options to help with the discomfort

including topical numbing medication or an ice pack during treatment if requested by patients.

How long will the treatment take:

The majority of patients having only Juvederm Voluma XC injected will take 30 minutes.

What will I look like after the treatment?

Immediately following the injection you may experience mild swelling and redness. This usually last 24 hours.

You may experience bruising which can last up to 1 week.

What type of limitations are there after the treatment?

There are few limitations following the treatment. These include: refraining from touching or manipulating the

areas treated and from strenuous excercise for 24 hours after treatment.
